High-strength steels

Precipitation hardening in steels: Atom probe tomography is used to characterize nano-scale precipitation within a micro-alloyed steel. The precipitates are carbides and nitrides formed with Ti, Mo and V. Information on the morphology, chemistry and distribution of these precipitates can be used to further the understanding of structure-property relationships within this system, allowing optimization of the precipitation-hardening process.
